Bringing Your New Sheltie Puppy Home and What to Expect

Once you decide on the Sheltie puppy for you and your family, you must prepare mentally for the new addition. Once you adopt a puppy from a Shetland Sheepdog breeder, the first few weeks will require a lot of your time. Your Sheltie puppy will need constant attention and care. The Shetland Sheepdog puppy will be exploring and getting into everything, this means you must be on the look out overseeing everything the puppy does and everywhere the puppy goes. You must remember to have some patience and take everything one step at a time. You need to have a sense of humor when you puppy misbehaves otherwise you will become much stressed, and being stressed is not good for you or your Sheltie.

You will also have to not only puppy proof your house but also pick up a few important items. Here are a few things that you will need to have before your new Sheltie puppy arrives home; a wire or plastic dog crate, bedding for the crate that is machine washable as well and thick for your Shetland Sheepdog puppy's comfort, also you will need to pick up stainless steal dishes one for water and one for dry food, a puppy collar with leash, ID tag with your information in case your Sheltie puppy ever wanders off, a few high quality chew toys, grooming supplies such as a comb or brush, premium dry puppy food, a baby gate for blocking areas that you do not wish for the puppy to go into, and information on ways to train your new Shetland Sheepdog puppy.

After a week or two you will know what to expect and your Sheltie puppy will begin to become more acclimated to your home and the new environment. You and your new Shetland Sheepdog puppy will have a wonderful time learning together!
